Pathé: Yum yum!
The National Archives education team’s film of the month highlights a Pathé film relating to current events, anniversaries or key topics that you may be covering in the classroom.
This month’s clip is ‘Yum! Yum!’ from 1949 celebrating the end of rationing on sweets and chocolate.
With this film, students could consider:
Why were sweets still being rationed years after the end of the war?
What do you think about people queuing before the shops opened to buy sweets?
What types of sweets can you see? Are they the same as we have today?
What do sweets and chocolates represent at this time?
This film clip can be used in studies of post-war Britain alongside our Themed Collection: Attlee’s Britain 1945-1951
