Pathé: Four Years Ago

The National Archives education team’s film of the month highlights a Pathé film relating to current events, anniversaries or key topics that you may be covering in the classroom.
This month’s clip is ‘Four Years Ago’– a film from 1943 reflecting on the invasion of Poland in September 1939. Please note, this film does include images of casualties of the attacks in Warsaw.

With this film, students could consider:

•    What was London like in 1939?
•    What ‘1914 mentality’ does the film talk about?
•    Why had it taken so long for the film of Warsaw to reach London?
•    What does the film show us about the invasion of Poland and the other countries the Nazis invaded?

This film could be used alongside our resources about the Holocaust and the Second World War, particularly our World War Two topic website.
