One of the gems of the CO 1069 collection is a publication by the explorer, naturalist and painter George French Angas, entitled the New Zealanders Illustrated.
Published in 1847, the copy in The National Archives comes from the Colonial Office Library.
The volume CO 1069/632 consists of 60 colour plates depicting scenes of New Zealand and native New Zealanders sketched by Angas in 1844. This talk selects 15 of the best sketches, along with selected passages from Angas’ accompanying commentary.
