Kirit Thakrar (narrated by JP Agrawal): Personal memories of the expulsion

Kirit had just turned 17 and was living a typical teenage life in Uganda until he heard the radio announcement by Idi Amin, “I had a dream that if I expel all Asians whatever passports they are holding, and take away all their businesses, Uganda will prosper.”
As a young boy, Kirit did not couldn’t understand the enormity of the situation however the dangers soon became clear when a machine gun was pointed to his throat.

This talk was recorded as part of the event at The National Archives on 9 October 2012, marking 40 years since the expulsion of Asians from Uganda by Idi Amin.
