Film of the Month: New National Health Service

The National Archives education team’s film of the month highlights a Pathé film relating to current events, anniversaries or key topics that you may be covering in the classroom.

This month’s clip is ‘New National Health Service’– a film about the launch of the NHS.

With this film, students could consider:

  • What did the new NHS offer to patients?
  • What did patients need to do?
  • Were all doctors immediately part of the NHS?
  • Why was the Post Office involved?

This film could be used alongside our Attlee’s Britain 1945-1951 collection and other resources related to the launch of the NHS and medicine through time.
